Unless an original is incredibly good or massively different it’s hard for it to dislodge a cover that I’ve heard first. Black Sabbath‘s original is great and this wouldn’t exist without that, but does the original have cheesy vocal samples and Trent Reznor shouting “Supernaut” all over it? No! When I spotted Supermalt in my local convenience store it was the first thing that sprang to mind/ear.
“Practically every one of the Top 40 records being played on every radio station in the United States is a communication to the children to take a trip, to cop out, to groove. The psychedelic jackets on the record albums have their own hidden symbols and messages as well as all the lyrics to all the top rock songs and they all sing the same refrain: it’s fun to take a trip, put acid in your veins.”
*Edited to bowdlerise post title in line with vgr2016’s semi-SFW policy, although the name is still splashed all over the YouTube video. Who doesn’t like the idea of Post-Modern DJs though? Casuals who won’t dance to sandpaper on turntables, that’s who!
