Well I Never Knew That #4

Saw this fun fact mentioned in passing online and it startled me into double-checking.

MC Hammer‘s “Pray“, a song I barely recall yet instantly recognised, is one I mentally group with that whole dire ITV Chart Show/Madchester/Janet Jackson/Luther Van-dross early-‘90s lacuna before popular music got good again. Yes, I just sideswiped Le Carpets Inspiral, deal with it.

“We’ve got to pray (pray) / We’ve got to pray (pray) / We’ve got to pray just to make it some day!”

You’re probably already spoiled on the answer, due to poor formatting on my part, but which alt rock classic does MC Hammer sample above for his beats? Why, none other than Faith No More‘s “We Care A Lot“. Hell, you could almost sing FNM‘s tune over/against Hammer‘s!

“Well it’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it!”

Whatever happened to MC Hammer? I remember him, but all I know now is Lewis Hamilton keeps saying “it’s hammer time” when he’s about to go on a rampage.

Perhaps his trousers grew so large they swallowed him whole. Now his lonely ghost haunts the parts of the charts Ed Sheeran doesn’t reach, insubstantial, ephemeral and untouchable.

I think that’s definitely what happened.

Aha! So what you’re saying is that between us we have the technology? A machine designed to build Batman MC Hammer!
